Master of Public Health Program- Admissions
For admission, applicants must demonstrate a strong academic record, background and/or experience relevant to public health, well-articulated career goals relevant to public health, and a commitment to the health of the community. A complete application includes official transcripts, a personal letter of application, and three letters of recommendation (preferably at least one academic letter). Submission of GRE (or MCAT, LSAT, DMAT, or GMAT) scores is highly encouraged.
Application deadlines: January 1 (International Students) or February 1 (Domestic Students) for matriculation in the following fall semester.

Definitions and Explanations
- Official Transcripts: Request official transcripts from each college or university that you have attended. Ask that the transcript be sent to you — not to UCONN — in a sealed envelope. Official transcripts are issued by the college/university attended and bear the impressed or colored seal of that institution. Compile all your transcripts into your packet of supporting materials. Do not open the sealed transcripts you send to us.
IMPORTANT: The most common reason for delayed consideration of graduate school applications is missing or unofficial transcripts. Unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
- Letters of recommendation: Letters of recommendation should be placed in sealed envelopes by your recommenders and should bear their signature in ink across the seal of the envelope. Ask the recommenders to send the letters directly to you — not to UCONN and include them with all your application materials. Three letters of recommendation are required. There is no specific form used for letters of recommendation.
- Personal letter of application: This document should explain your reasons for undertaking graduate work, your ultimate plans, and how you happened to select the field in which you hope to concentrate. Details about your preparation, your strengths and weaknesses as a student, any academic honors, scholarships, or fellowships you have received, will all be helpful. The committee wants to know those things about you that cannot be expressed quantitatively.
- Residence Affidavit (CT Residents ONLY): If you are a Connecticut resident, download and complete the Residence Affidavit (PDF; 12 KB). Without this affidavit you cannot qualify for in-state tuition rates.
- TOEFL Scores (International Applicants ONLY): Students whose native language is not English must submit English proficiency scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper) or 250 (computer) is required for admissions. The TOEFL should be taken well in advance of the admission deadlines to assure consideration for the requested admit term. Copies of score reports sent to students are acceptable. To send your TOEFL scores along with your application, please use institution code 3915; a department code is not necessary.
- Official GRE Scores: The Master of Public Health program strongly encourages taking the General GRE exam (verbal, quantitative and analytical) or an equivalent (ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT). To send official GRE scores to our program, please use institution code 3915; a department code is not necessary.
